The Oriental Shorthair shares the same elegant body type and affectionate personality as the Siamese, but comes in a wide variety of colours and patterns.
The breed was developed in the mid-20th century when breeders began crossing Siamese cats with other shorthaired breeds, including Russian Blues, British Shorthairs and Abyssinians. The goal was to create a cat with the beautiful Siamese body type and personality while expanding the range of coat colours beyond traditional pointed patterns.
Over time, breeders selectively bred back to Siamese-type cats, resulting in the modern Oriental Shorthair we know today — elegant, intelligent, affectionate and full of personality.
